Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors

November 13, 2024

A regular meeting of the Python Software Foundation ("PSF") Board of Directors was held over Group Conference Call via phone and Internet Relay Chat/Slack beginning at 14:00 UTC, on November 13, 2024. Deb Nicholson took notes/minutes.

All votes are reported in the form "Y-N-A" (in favor-Y‚opposed-N‚abstentions-A; e.g. "5-1-2" means "5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions").

1   Attendance

The following members of the Board of Directors (9 of 12) were present at the meeting: Cristián Maureira-Fredes, Tania Allard, Dawn Wages, Christopher Neugebauer, KwonHan Bae, Deb Nicholson, Jannis Leidel, Georgi Ker, Simon Willison. Jannis Leidel left the meeting at 14:30 UTC.

Phyllis Dobbs (Controller), Laura Graves (Senior Accountant), Ee Durbin (Director of Infrastructure), Loren Crary (Director of Resource Development), Seth Larson (Python Security Developer in Residence), Marie Nordin (Community Communications Manager), and Mike Fiedler (PyPI Safety and Security Engineer) were also in attendance.

3.9   Seth Larson

  • PEP 761 (deprecating and discontinuing PGP signatures for CPython) has been approved by the Steering Council. Working with Linux distributions and others consuming CPython verification materials on the ability to migrate to Sigstore.
  • Kick-off of the SBOMs for Python packages project which aims to solve the “phantom dependency” problem and to provide a baseline for how SBOM generators should handle Python packages.
  • Added support for older macOS versions to Truststore. This was the only major issue reported after switching pip to using Truststore by default.
  • Drafted the end-of-year Alpha-Omega report for the Python Software Foundation.
  • Worked with Aaron to draft a reusable reply template for the Secure Software Attestation collections from USGov / contractors. In short, recent updates to SSDF don’t require open source projects to provide these attestations.
  • Quoted in the CVE 25th anniversary report. Guest on the Open Source Security podcast and the “We Love Open Source” YouTube channel.
